Dimbleby begins his journey in the romantic north of England, an area that has attracted many a renowned painter and scribe. As little as 250 years ago, the Lake District was viewed as an ugly and inhospitable wilderness. Since then, its beauty and diversity has inspired some of our most revered artists. David learns that Wordsworth spent his most productive years at Grasmere, composing such legendary works as Daffodils. The natural beauty of the area also moved JMW Turner to create such fine works as Morning On The Coniston Fells. Of course, no trip to this part of the world would be complete without a visit to Yorkshire and in particular Haworth Moor, the rugged landscape which provided the dramatic backdrop to Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights.

David Dimbleby explores the flattest areas of eastern England, beginning in Suffolk where John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough grew up and painted their most romantic landscapes. He moves on to examine the work of horse painter George Stubbs at Newmarket, finds out about John Crome and John Sell Cotman in the Norfolk Broads, and ends up on the east coast. Here the remorseless sea, which eats away at the vulnerable coast, has provided inspiration for composers like Benjamin Britten and artists throughout the centuries – from the contemporary artist Maggi Hambling right back to the greatest sea painter of all time, JMW Turner.

The stories behind this rapidly changing continent. In Chile, Dimbleby discovers a nation transformed since the demise of the dictator General Pinochet. After his journeys across Russia and Africa, Jonathan Dimbleby turns his attention to South America. Once notorious for drugs and dictators, the continent still faces daunting challenges but Dimbleby also finds energy and optimism in this 21st century New World.

The purpose of this textbook is to provide students with the necessary landmarks to accomplish their task—to understand the big picture of human anatomy in the context of health care, bypassing the minutia. The landmarks used to accomplish this task are text and illustrations. They are complete, yet concise and both figuratively and literally provide the "Big Picture" of human anatomy.

In the mid-1770s the country was intoxicated by a great surge of political energy. Re-discovering England’s wildernesses, the intellectuals of the “romantic generation” also discovered the plight of the common man, turning nature into a revolutionary force.
